Net Content changes
Having accurate net content data is a crucial requirement to ensure that correct unit pricing information is displayed in-store and online. It ensures our on-going compliance with Unit Pricing Regulations that came into effect on 31 August 2024
Under the GS1 GTIN Management Standards, all net content changes require a new barcode https://www.gs1.org/1/gtinrules/en/rule/266/declared-net-content.
To ensure consistency when updates or changes are made to net content information by suppliers, we have introduced the following guidelines:
If net content has increased:
• You will need to create a new product with a new barcode, which is the same process currently used for any new product.
If net content has decreased within a threshold of 10% (in volume, weight etc.):
• You will need to amend/update the existing article/product data with a new barcode.
• If you use Products on the Exchange to provide product data, you will need to update the existing product/article with the new barcode.
• If you use the GS1 NPC to provide product data please publish the new item in the NPC and email natpim@foodstuffs-si.co.nz, advising the new and old barcodes and that they are to be merged.
If net content has decreased more than 10% (in volume, weight, etc.):
• You will need to create a new product with a new barcode, which is the same process currently used for any new product.
These guidelines are now ‘live’; and should be used when you need to make net content changes to your product(s). If you have any questions regarding the changes above or require support, please contact us at natpim@foodstuffs-si.co.nz or call the NatPIM team 0800 555 985.
